This month at Astley we are flying high in more ways than one!

Firstly a big shout out to one of our care team, Daniella Thorpe. She is raising funds for Mental Health UK by completing a sky dive! Daniella shows such kindness and compassion, always going the extra mile in her care of our residents. Her caring nature is further reflected by fundraising for such an important cause.

Here is the link to her Just Giving page.

Wishing you the best of luck Daniella from your Astley Hall family.

Flying high at Astley Hall

With the glorious sunshine, we have been soaking up some Vitamin D in our superb garden. It is lovely to have family and friends to visit. A stroll around the grounds before a chit-chat over tea and cake, is just the tonic. The kitchen team have been cooking alfresco with some great barbeques.

This last week’s heatwave has coincided with National Hydration Week. Our refreshing juice mocktails and watermelon slices were enjoyed all the more. It has also been an opportunity to talk again about the importance of hydration for the elderly. Learning to recognise the signs of dehydration and tips to stay hydrated.

Happy contentment among our Astley residents

The Astley Salon has been open for setting and curling. Some of our ladies enjoyed a pamper morning when it was all rather hot outside. Facemasks and aromatherapy hand massages, listening to some mindfulness meditation music – everyone was left feeling cool, calm and collected.

There is a wonderful bond between residents and a sense of happy contentment at Astley. Listening to our Ladies Who Lunch smiling and giggling over a shared joke as they prepare for their lunch.  One gentleman has been framing his stunning black and white photographs to hang in our home. Residents have also worked together to create personalised bunting for their rooms.

We celebrated Betty and Iris’s birthdays with fabulous cakes, visits from family and friends and parties in the garden. Garden games, dominoes and a sing-song to summer favourites.

We are having a sweepstake for the Euros. Everyone has drawn a country out of a hat, for a little extra competition. Soon it will be Wimbledon – always the perfect excuse for strawberries and cream and a jug of Pimms!

And there was even more jubilation when a letter from the Queen arrived in the post. To commemorate the passing of Prince Phillip, our residents sent a sympathy card to Buckingham Palace for the Queen. We were delighted to receive a beautiful card in reply. To make it all the more special and keep it as a last memory, our crafty whizz Jude created a backdrop and framed the card. It is now displayed proudly within our home. In the words of Jude “They couldn’t have done it better if Blue Peter had done it themselves!”. We couldn’t agree more!
