Abberton Manor is a magnificent Queen Anne Manor House set in attractively landscaped gardens and woodland with beautiful views over the Roman River valley, situated 3 miles south of Colchester.
Abberton Manor has an enviable reputation for providing professional nursing care in a happy and friendly environment. It is highly rated for both the quality of its care and the warmth of its staff, many of whom have spent a number of years at the home.
The manor provides accommodation for just 26 residents in a comfortable, secure, relaxed, and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort is of prime importance. The home offers both single and shared accommodation, the majority of which is en-suite, and all refurbished to a high standard. The home has been furnished with its Queen Anne origins in mind, and residents particularly enjoy the extensive lawns and gardens surrounding the manor.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures to personalise their accommodation, but furniture can be supplied if preferred.
Two characterful lounges provide a warm, communal area for residents and their visitors to enjoy. Separate dining rooms promote meal times as a sociable activity. Family and friends are encouraged to visit at any time, and join in with the activities or mealtimes.
Libby has spent the majority of her career in the care of older people, and believes strongly that residential nursing care should be seen as a positive choice for older persons. As a teenager, Libby started working as a weekend kitchen assistant at Abberton Manor. In 2000, Libby returned as a qualified Registered General Nurse before becoming the manager shortly thereafter.
Libby and her management team have all been with the home now for many years, and this has helped create a warm and stable caring environment. As a firm believer in transparency in any care environment, the home is signed up to a community visitors’ programme, and welcomes visitors into the home on a regular basis to act as advocates for residents and staff.
Abberton Manor provides quality residential and nursing care on a long term, convalescent or short stay basis. The team has embraced the ethos of the “myhomelife” project, and as an ambassador home, aims to create a balanced home life distinct from the more institutional residential care which can sometimes be found in other facilities.
Person-centred care is at the heart of Abberton Manor’s ethos. Residents are encouraged make use of the beautiful, walled garden, complete with a fountain area, and the wildlife and bug hotel. An active body of volunteers helps to maintain the mature gardens, and residents are encouraged to help.
Good quality food is integral to our lives and well being. Ingredients are sourced from local suppliers to create appetising, wholesome food in a varied menu. Each individual’s nutritional requirements, together with their likes and dislikes, are carefully noted and monitored to provide a balanced and nutritious diet. Afternoon cakes are also a must!
Like all Heritage Manor homes, Abberton Manor’s dedicated staff do their upmost to ensure that residents get the most they can from life.
A full-time activities programme run by a dedicated activities organiser provides a varied line-up of events catering for both groups and individuals, with activities ranging from beauty treatments and gardening, to trips out and keeping bees. Input from local schools, theatres and churches ensure that there is something for everyone to get involved in.
Activities include: Chair-based exercise classes, Themed supper evenings, Sunday church service, Visits to local attractions, Regular entertainers, Garden parties, Gardening, Art and craft, Cake making and decorating
We have long-standing and dedicated nursing teams in our homes, with many years of professional experience between them. This has enabled us in a number of our homes to have achieved the highest accreditation for nursing care, the Gold Standard Framework.
