We support families, easing their loved ones transition to our home and welcoming everyone to our Lawns family. We have an open door policy and encourage families and friends to join for activities, events and mealtimes. We are closely linked with our local community and value their support and interaction with our home.

Our purpose built extension (which opened in August 2018) has 22 rooms, all en-suite, with the ground floor residential rooms having their own gardens. A stunning glass atrium sensory garden links the extension to the refurbished regency manor house. We have a number of social areas for residents to enjoy, a bar and an open plan kitchen dedicated to residents, so they can bake, make tea and coffee, should they wish to. In April 2022 we completed a fully renovation of the manor house part of our home. This includes 6 new residential bedroom suites and a refurbishment of the nursing floor to create a further nursing room. We have new social areas and a glorious conservatory.

Our food is locally sourced, cooked from fresh ingredients, often home-grown and tailored to individuals’ wishes and needs. Our residents have designed and implemented a garden scheme with a wildlife area, patio seating and a veggie plot and greenhouse.

Melanie Dawson Home Manager - 01905 816412

In 2019, I became Home Manager at The Lawns and am proud to be working with such a dedicated team who have worked really hard to make the home one of the best in Worcestershire.  The home specialises in End of Life Care and, has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2013. We have just been awarded the GSF Platinum accreditation for 2019 and were awarded by the GSF 2nd place in their Care Home of the Year.

Running a nursing home can be very hard work at times but it also brings plentiful rewards; being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of our ability is a privilege.

I trained in Worcestershire in 1985 and worked in the NHS until 1998. I then managed a dual registered home in Stratford Upon Avon until 2001 and from there, I went to work for a National Care provider becoming their Registered Manager and Head of Clinical Care. I worked in that position for 17 years before becoming Home Manager at The Lawns.

Being in the nursing for 35 years, I bring  a wealth of experience in all sectors of nursing and have a very hands on approach. I live locally and have a family, including young grand children, and am well aware of the pressures that surround families and carers. My door is always open, so feel free to pop in for a chat or give me a call anytime. My direct dial is 01905 816412.

Our Quality Care

The Lawns provides a range of care across generations; day care, respite care, residential accommodation, nursing care and palliative / end of life care. This continuum of care is tailored to the well-being of each resident and their changing needs over time.

We believe in person-centred care, recognising that needs change over time and look after emotional well-being, as well as physical. This relieves that worry of the future for residents and their families.

Our residents are across generations and we offer support for young adults with complex long-term nursing needs through to more elderly residents. This cross generational living makes us even more of a family - the wisdom of years supporting our younger residents and in return they share their youthful vigour and zest for life.

The Lawns has an excellent reputation for the quality of its nursing and palliative care. The Gold Standards Framework is the highest accreditation in care, awarded to care homes with exceptional nursing and palliative / end of life care, both for residents and in support of their families.

We have held the coveted Gold Standards Framework Award since 2013. In 2019 we achieved Platinum Status for this Award and were nominated for The Gold Standards Framework Carehome of the Year. The Platinum Status Award was reaccredited again in 2022. This is testament to our exceptionally high quality of care and dedication of our team.

Testimonials
  • "The Lawns is a lovely inclusive environment where Mum has been made to feel very welcome, is well cared for and treated with respect. the staff truly do live by the mantra that they work in the resident's home. The rooms are well cared for and beautifully clean. As guests, we are always warmly welcomed. There are numerous activities to engage residents which are well prepared and delivered. The manager ensures that standards remain high. "

  • "I am very happy with the way The Lawns look after my father. Nothing is too much trouble - always upbeat and happy, very professional, never have a problem. They are always willing to listen and very quick to contact you with any updates or concerns they may have. "

SJ, son of resident, December 2023
  • "I recently spent a week's respite at The Lawns after a hip replacement. The staff were friendly, welcoming, caring and considerate and the standard of care was very high. My room was spotless, bright and airy; the perfect place to recuperate and get stronger before returning home. I was invited to join in activities if I wished to do so and enjoyed a gentle exercise class one morning which was also beneficial for my recovery. The meals were excellent, with a variety of choices to cater for all tastes. I ate some meals in my room but enjoyed joining other residents in the dining room at lunchtime and being able to chat. Even though my stay was short, I felt that members of staff made time to get to know me and my likes and dislikes which made my stay an exceedingly enjoyable one. It was my birthday before I left and I was made to feel very special. I would thoroughly recommend staying at The Lawns. "

    MT, respite resident, December 2023
  • "I cannot thank the manager and staff enough for the excellent care my uncle receives. I can honestly say you nursed him back to life, considering he was placed with your home on an end-of-life care package, so the expertise, care, love, and patience you have given/shown considering we are going into our 5th year with you speaks volumes. There is always a smile and a cheery face when visiting and you leave knowing your loved one is in good hands and content. "

LW, niece of resident. December 2023
  • "Thank you to the staff at The Lawns for the way you looked after my dad during his time with you. Knowing that he was cared for with the utmost respect until he passed, brought great comfort to me and my family. Nothing was too much trouble, great nursing home run by great staff. "

PF, son of resident, January 2024
  • "The staff couldn’t have been more caring, friendly and helpful, to both Dad and myself. The stimulation he is getting from the attention of the staff, the activities available and the encouragement to mix with others, is wonderful. He has only been there for four days and he is already looking better than he has looked for months, despite the massive changes in his life over the last three weeks. I am amazed at how wonderful this home is proving to be. "

Our Activities

Like all Heritage Manor homes, we have dedicated staff who focus on providing a varied programme of events throughout the week, both on a group and one-to-one basis. We like to help our residents carry on their favourite activities wherever possible, but also to introduce new experiences.  Our activities staff have a varied background, from organising large musical events to beauty therapy, and they find something for everyone.

The role of our activities coordinators extends to well-being and lifestyle: finding out what makes residents happy on a day to day basis, their likes and dislikes, hobbies and interests. Ensuring they feel happy and relaxed and can do all the things they would do at home, at their Lawns home.

We have a full-time activities programme run by our activities organisers. These range from beauty treatments and hairdressing to chair-based exercise classes, live entertainment, pop-up shops, theme days, crafting, themed super evenings and art and gardening clubs.

We always encourage friends and family to take part in our social activities, and are keen to help arrange birthday parties and special events.  We also celebrate Christmas and Easter, hold an annual Summer fete, have firework displays and hold events to which all are invited.  We also encourage residents and staff into the garden as much as possible.
