About Us

Abberton Manor has an enviable reputation for providing professional nursing care in a happy and friendly environment. It is highly rated for both the quality of its care and the warmth of its staff, many of whom have spent a number of years at the home.

The manor provides accommodation for just 26 residents in a comfortable, secure, relaxed, and homely environment in which their care, well being and comfort is of prime importance. The home offers both single and shared accommodation, the majority of which is en-suite, and all refurbished to a high standard.  The home has been furnished with its Queen Anne origins in mind, and residents particularly enjoy the extensive lawns and gardens surrounding the manor.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and pictures to personalise their accommodation, but furniture can be supplied if preferred.

Two characterful lounges provide a warm, communal area for residents and their visitors to enjoy. Separate dining rooms promote meal times as a sociable activity. Family and friends are encouraged to visit at any time, and join in with the activities or mealtimes.

Kylie Vickery Home Manager

I have worked in the care sector for 19 years, am a registered nurse and have been a registered care manager for the last 4 years. I am passionate about ensuring all residents live life to the full and making each day the best and fulfilling as it can be.

Abberton specialises in End of Life Care and, has held the Gold Standard Framework Award for End of Life Care since 2017, and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards.

The team have worked really hard to make the home one of the best within the area and achieved recognition by way of their many awards. Our roles in care are incredibly rewarding and  being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of our ability is a privilege. The support forged by Abberton through the FaNs Network and the local community is also invaluable. It enables residents to live their lives to the full and to stay young at heart, with entertainment and the companionship from all generations.

Abberton is a warm and inviting home, in an enviable countryside location with wonderful gardens and a stunning manor house. We welcome family and friends to share in our day to day life and special events that are planned and delivered by our activities team and staff.

Our Quality Care

We have long-standing and dedicated nursing teams in our homes, with many years of professional experience between them. This has enabled us in a number of our homes to have achieved the highest accreditation for nursing care, the Gold Standard Framework.

Abberton Manor was awarded with the Gold Standards Framework in 2017 and also the Best Community Engagement Award at Essex Care Awards. This year we have been awarded the Best Nursing and Personal Care Home in Essex by Global Health and Pharma. We are also regional winners at The 2018 Great British Care Awards.

Testimonials
  • "I will always be grateful to every member of staff at Abberton Manor for looking after my brother during the last few weeks of his life with such care and compassion but also with plenty of lightheartedness and humour, which he really enjoyed. I am also grateful to the staff for their kindness in looking after me too and for all the cups of tea and coffee and the many much-needed hugs. Walking into Abberton Manor felt like walking into a lovely big family home. It was obviously an amazing place in its heyday, and now the grandeur is a little faded, but somehow that just adds to its warm and comforting feel. Abberton Manor is a lovely place full of lovely, caring people. "

  • "The care and respect my mother has received since arriving at Abberton Manor Nursing Home in June 2023 has been excellent. It is a great relief that her personal care and safety are professionally administered and her psychological welfare is addressed and communicated with me. "

JD, Daughter of resident, September 2023
  • "Abberton Manor Nursing Home is a beautiful care home. The garden areas and bedroom views are breath-taking. We are always greeted with happy staff and made to feel very welcome. I cannot praise and recommend this home enough. "

NS, friend of resident, September 2023
  • "Abberton Manor Nursing Home is like a home from home where you very quickly sink into the ambience which is like a "warm blanket on a cold day". The bedrooms with bathrooms are so comfortable but the best feature of Abberton Manor, without a doubt, is the staff who I would describe as friendly and caring. Care homes, by their nature, are expensive but Abberton Manor stands "head and shoulders" above the norm. Very well done! "

DD, son of resident, September 2023
  • "I was worried about my dad spending his last days in a care home but as soon as we got to Abberton Manor Nursing Home, the staff where lovely. The respect and the care he received were beautiful. Couldn't ask for a better place for him to spend his last days and can’t thank the staff enough. "

JM, daughter in law of resident, October 2023
  • "Thank you to all the staff at the Abberton Manor Nursing Home for the truly great care that they gave my brother during his time there before he passed away. We were so very happy with the way we were welcomed when we visited my brother. "
