St Cassian’s Church and our Derek
St Cassian’s Church is located in the beautiful rural village of Chaddesley Corbett. It is the centre of a warm community, which Derick has been part for all his life. In fact, he joined the Church choir aged 7. He has always actively volunteered with church and village events.
Derick now lives with us at Astley Hall.
A new church window
In March this year at the Church, there was a dedication of a new contemporary stained glass window in the Lady Chapel. This was donated towards by the community in memory of Rosemary Brinton Butler. She started a drama group for the children in the village. In 1958 she produced the first nativity play at the Church and went on to produce many dramas and musicals.
The beautiful window depicting The Annunciation, was made
by Keith Brettle in his Hampton Loade studio. Please click on the attached village link for more information http://www.chaddesley-corbett.co.uk/faiths.htm
Sadly, Derek was unable to attend the March dedication. Thankfully though, last week we arranged for Derick to visit his beloved Church and see for himself the new stained glass window.
The Church visit
It was a very emotional day for everyone. Derick was surrounded by friends, who he missed so much these last few months. There was also a delicious tea with cakes galore. It was a wonderful time for him to catch up with his friends, see the window and share memories of Rosemary and village life.
